  • For first time mums, detecting early pregnancy signs can be really tricky. Most pregnancy signs take effect only after a month from the day of conception (sometimes even longer than that) while other pregnancy symptoms are visible just several days after conception. You may start feeling some changes in your mood or in your physique as your hormones become heightened as well.

But before you arrive to a conclusion of whether you’re pregnant or not, it’s better that you have a heads up on the weeks to come.

    Pregnancy signs to expect:

Pregnancy Sign #1: Missed Menstrual Period

If you keep your menstrual cycle on track, you would know whether you’re expecting or not. The first pregnancy sign is a missed period. That’s why couples who have been trying to conceive a child for a long time take a missed period as a pregnancy sign. Ultimately, they will be rejoicing because of the idea that a baby is on its way. However, for some women who have an irregular menstrual cycle, a missed period is not that reliable. Stress can also be another factor why delayed menstrual periods occur.

Pregnancy Sign #2: Nausea and Vomiting

A combination of nausea and vomiting refers to morning sickness. Almost 70% of pregnant women go through this pregnancy sign which is experienced a few weeks after conception. Because of hormonal changes in the body, the nauseous feeling during pregnancy happens not just in the morning but the entire day as well. You’re lucky if you belong to the remaining 30% not suffering from this uneasy feeling.

Pregnancy Sign #3: Swollen Breasts and Darkening Areolas

Sore, swollen, or tender breasts can be experienced just two weeks after conception, although the same pregnancy signs can also happen for women expecting their period. Aside from that, the skin around your nipple area (the areolas) becomes darker. As a first time mum, the darkening of areolas may not be the initial pregnancy sign. But for mums who have given birth already, the dark color of areolas results from the previous pregnancy.

Pregnancy Sign #4: Stress and Fatigue

High levels or progesterone is a common pregnancy sign that affects women which is visible through frequent exhaustion and stress. This sudden feeling of tiredness usually happens during the first trimester. You may feel thirsty or have muscle pains when all along, you just managed to lie down at home or sit all day at the office. Another pregnancy sign, is getting extremely tired during early pregnancy may not be a guaranteed indicator of an offspring but when other symptoms arise, this serves as a dependable pregnancy sign.

Pregnancy Sign #5: Proven Pregnancy Test

Pregnancy signs are proven true when you take a test with a positive result. You can check over the counter kits available at drug stores or convenience stores. All you need are few drops of your urine sample. For some couples who want to confirm the results, they immediately see a doctor or have another test using blood sample. For whatever method you have in mind, still it’s advisable that you take the test two weeks after a missed period because negative results will mostly likely occur when you take home tests earlier.

Remember, early pregnancy signs only serve as guide. Consult your doctor as soon as you get a positive result from your home tests and immediately ask for an expert’s advice.
